Kolkata
As the 8th largest urban city in the world with over 15 million inhabitants, Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) is rich with history and culture.
Calcutta was the capital of British India. It was established in 1686, as a result of the expansion of the British Raj. In 1756, the city was attacked by Siraj-Ud Daula who succeeded in driving the British away. The city then continued to grow in nationalism, and in 2001 was renamed Kolkata

The effects of urbanization is something that Kolkata has had to deal with recently, due to economic growth and a large number of rural Indians coming to the city to find work. This means overpopulation, poverty, and pollution are becoming more and more pressing

Kolkata is home to a large population of rickshaw drivers. Rickshaws are both cycle-powered and hand-pulled carts used to transport one or two people. Although becoming increasingly banned throughout Asia, rickshaw drivers have resisted prohibition in Kolkata. I noticed it was common for children to arrive to school by rickshaw transportation, and drivers also congregated in shopping areas where they had a high chance of getting a customer, laden with bags
